Feyre is about to marry Tamlin, the lord of the Spring Court when Lucien informs her that he is asking for the Tithe. She will be required to sit next to him while he collects this Tithe and punishes those who fail to pay. Rhys believes Feyre possesses greater power than a typical High Fae and is on the verge of becoming as strong as a High Lord. Feyre awakens in the Night Court, Rhysand sitting next to her bed in a chair. She is able to create a barrier around herself to protect herself from harm.
Lucien assures her that these abilities will develop regardless of whether she exercises or not. Some High Lords will want to murder her because she possesses their powers, while others want to take her to have children. Feyre finds herself in the foyer of a townhome in the heart of a metropolis. Someone lifts her, and she believes it’s Amarantha for a second before realizing it’s Mor. Mor informs Feyre that Rhys could destroy the shield around the home with a half-thought and that she is now free.
He tells her she is welcome to remain with him as long as she wants. Rhys, Cassian, Azriel, Amren, and Mor are a group of Illyians who fought the Night King for seven years. The Prison was built to house the most heinous and deadly criminals and animals. Amren visits Feyre and offers her an amulet that she claims got her out of jail. She warns her that if she wears it in, they will never be able to keep her.
Feyre can hear the Weaver’s singing as she enters her home, which is brimming with stuff. She flees till she comes across Rhys, who grabs her and drags her back to the Wind House. Feyre claims she was preparing to plunge the dagger in her own heart if the third faerie UTM hadn’t been Tamlin. She explains that she was able to see through Rhys’ eyes at that point. The Summer Court manages to keep their riches hidden from Amarantha UTM, who requests to examine his collections.
Rhys instructs az to break the Attors legs, shred its wings, and then throw it off the Hybernian coast. Feyre writes Tamlin a note explaining that she is safe and thankful for everything she has done for her but will not return. She recognizes the song that made her cry in her UTM cell as one of the songs she heard while locked up. Tarquin claims that his cousin Brutius was assembling forces in their towns to storm UTM and was captured and murdered by Rhys. Feyre uses her mind-reading abilities to enter Tarquin’s thoughts and calm his concerns about why she is questioning him so intently.
Rhys and Amren want to try to get access to a temple they believe holds a book that has been missing for two days. Feyre and Rhys are taken to the Court of Nightmares by Cassian and Azriel, both wearing battle-black armour with seven siphons on each side. The Queens want confirmation that he is not the monster they’ve heard so much about. Mor interrupts, stating that they are aware of her identity and that her gift is truth. Amren tells Feyre that he was a ghost when Rhys returned from UTM, but Feyre brought him back to life.
Feyre’s sisters Elain, Nesta, and Morwin into High Fae by the King of Hybern using a cauldron. Cassian is attempting to form a female-only aerial fighting team, but guys make their lives so difficult that many quit. Feyre pursues Suriel once more in order to learn how to save Rhys, who she believes has been poisoned by Amarantha.
